Two Great Articles About "Islamo-Fascism" & Two Gay Writers Bash Academic Freedom

Two really good articles about the rising Islamaphobia in this country and the recent "Islamo-Fascism" events that have taken place across the country.

The Culture War Descends on Columbia

Attacking Islam Undermines Religious Freedom

BTW - two queer writers have added to this climate of fear and intolerance.

The Columbia Professor That Thinks Gay People Don't Exist in the Middle East - by James Kirchick

Excerpt:
"... a Columbia University professor--currently up for tenure--carries forth an insidious attempt to convince the world that men like Tayseer are somehow figments of the Western world's imagination. And who are we to complain about the murders of people who "do not exist"? "

Constructing Closets - by Wayne Besen

Excerpt:
Massad, and others university professors who promote such barbarism, should be denied tenure for their shoddy scholarship and offering the "intellectual" underpinnings for mainstreaming murder.

Sadly, queer people are not immune to the vitriolic agenda being promoted by neo-conservatives in this country. Scary that both Wayne and Jake call for Columbia University to not grant tenure to Professor Joseph Massad at Columbia University. Not only are we feeding into the anti-Muslim sentiments in this country but now we (queer people) have taken the fighting to a whole new level. Very very sad!

Whether you agree with Professor Massad's theory or not, its astonishing that members of our "community" would stoop to such a low level and affect the very livelihood of an Arab professor and his career.
